Of Dust and Days is a one-minute experimental film. Its visual rhythm came from composer Zhiyao Guo’s one-minute music demo. The entire video follows the rhythm of the music.

The footage consists of moving image, still photographs, and a piece of archival footage under five seconds. Most of the images were shot during my third year of living with Zhiyao on Yucca Street: tree shadows outside the window, the folds of a blanket, insects trapped in a bottle… Within the music’s framework, these images overlap and unfold into one another.

The colored images carry a tender, dusk-like tone, until they are interrupted by the sudden archival footage, like a dream one cannot wake from.
